About Us

IT'S MORE EXCITING THAN EVER!

Dear Friend,

This past season was an enormous success, and much of that success can be attributed to your vital patronage and support.

This year we are delighted to be presenting a wide selection of entertainment with a roster that has something for everyone. In collaboration with Magic Space Entertainment, we are proud to offer you the exciting 2011–2012 Fred Meyer Broadway In Boise Series. The Series is one of the largest in our history and truly encompasses the something-for-everyone motif. One of the highlights is the 1st National Tour Premiere of the Tony Award-winning War Horse.

In addition, this year we present three wonderful family offerings with the new Velma V. Morrison Family Theatre Series and continue our popular Family Reading Series. You can also count on wonderful performances from our resident companies (Boise Philharmonic, Ballet Idaho, and Trey McIntyre Project) plus the 40th Anniversary Tour of The Manhattan Transfer, the international dance phenomenon MOMIX (performing the Idaho premiere of BOTANICA) and countless other national entertainers and artists.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the vital support of our Volunteers, Boise State University and the Morrison Center Endowment Foundation, Inc. Thanks to you and many others, the Velma V. Morrison Center for the Performing Arts is one of the most impressive theatres in the country—a destination for arts, culture and entertainment that we can all be proud of!

Sincerely,

James Patrick

Velma V. Morrison Center for the Performing Arts

Our Facility

Located on the campus of Boise State University, the 2,037- seat Velma V. Morrison Center for the Performing Arts is Idaho's premier performing arts center. Nestled on the banks of the Boise River with a panoramic view of the city, parks and foothills, the Center’s 10-story stage house is a recognizable fixture of the Capitol’s picturesque skyline. The realization of a life-long dream of Harry W. Morrison, and championed by his widow, Velma, the Center opened its doors on April 7, 1984. Today the Center is recognized as a major destination for arts and culture, hosting hundreds of live entertainment and arts education offerings annually that serve to enrich the lives of patrons of all ages. As a Boise State affiliate, the Center is a non-profit organization supported by ticket sales, facility rentals, donations and the generous support of the Morrison Center Endowment Foundation, Inc. The community is always invited to play an active role in our ongoing success as a donor or volunteer.

Views of the Center, inside and out, as well as a showcase of events that have graced our stage, can be found on our Photo Gallery page.

Every Great City…

"Every great city has a great performing arts facility. In the Morrison Center, Boise has that and much more: a soaring, visible tribute to the importance of arts and culture in our community. As the most isolated city of our size in the Lower 48, Boise possesses a fierce self-reliance in everything we do, including music, theater and dance. The Morrison Center provides more than just a stage for creative expression; rising from the banks of the Boise River, midway between the iconic architectural bookends of the Idaho Capitol and the Boise Depot, the Morrison Center stands as a testament to this city’s embrace of the artistic."

– Mayor David H. Bieter, Boise, Idaho

Our Mission

The Morrison Center's intended role in the cultural advancement of Boise and Idaho is stated in our Mission Statement.

Our History

The legacy of the Morrison Center is chronicled through a Historical Perspective, while a Hall of Fame page commemorates both the civic leaders whose devoted efforts helped bring the Center into existence and members of the community who have been recognized by the Morrison Center Board of Governors for their outstanding contributions to the performing arts.
