President's Message

Hello and Welcome!

It is hard to believe that the Morrison Center Volunteers is now in its 23rd year of serving the Velma V. Morrison Center for the Performing Arts. Our all-volunteer membership has evolved into a very professional and respected organization. Our members, many of whom are Charter Members, give generously of their time and talents and they all are the real "STARS" of the Center.

This year, as we begin our 2007-2008 season, we are sponsoring a Membership Drive on Wednesday, August 22nd from 5:00 - 7:00PM at the Center. We invite you to come down and meet some of our members and learn about the different ways you can participate a volunteer.

To get us back into the swing of things we will start off the season with our annual KICK OFF PARTY on September 12 at 6:30PM at the Center. This is a fun evening and one of our opportunities to thank our members for giving so generously of their time, talents and support.

Our Executive Director, Jan Zarr, has been very busy scheduling many exciting and diverse events for the upcoming season. The first in the "Broadway in Boise Series" begins September 21 with four performances of "Movin' Out" followed by "Spamalot" in October; "Riverdance" in January; "Gypsy" in February; "Cirque Dreams" in March; "Annie" in April; "I Love a Piano" in May; and "Stomp" in June. There are also performances by our own Boise Philharmonic, Ballet Idaho, Opera Idaho, BSU Music Department, High School Groups, etc. as well as many individual Shows. This season has the most performances and variety ever offered at the Morrison Center - an exciting time for us all!

We are also excited and proud of the Morrison Center ENCORE Program which is designed to give children the opportunity to experience the "Arts", many of them for the first time. This is done through the schools, with the children being bused in with their teachers and classmates and also available to home schooled children as well. There are usually two performances, 9:30 and 11:30AM and it is amazing the number of children that are able to participate. The ENCORE Programs this season are "Mixed Up Files" in October; "Miss Nelson Has a Field Day" in February; "A Year with Frog and Toad" in March; and "Old Yeller" in April. This is a wonderful opportunity for the us to help the ENCORE Program become an established successful program for our area young people. The importance of fostering the "Arts" and providing a positive experience at the Morrison Center will encourage our young people to come back year after year.

On April 18th at 6:30PM we will have our Annual Dinner Meeting at the Doubletree Riverside which is free to all paid members of the organization and is always a lovely affair. To close out this 2007-2008 Season, we will celebrate with an Ice Cream Social at the Center on June 17th. As you can see, our organization is not about all work and no play - we do have fun, too!!

We invite you to join us and become a part of this great organization where you will have the opportunity to form many new friendships among people who have some of the same interests and desires as you do.

We know that as a member of the MC Volunteers your life will be enriched - ours certainly have been by experiencing the "Gift of Volunteering".

Sincerely,

Mary Stadstad and Margaret Hanlon

Letter from the Executive Director

Welcome to the 2007-08 Season.

As I envision our local “cultural environment,” I see your

organization in the center of a circle, surrounded by numerous

and varied expectations and desires that our patrons have for the

Morrison Center.  An informal power exists with you, the

volunteer, through your support and attendance of the programs.

Your participation in the Morrison Center is a primary focus

for me as executive director.  The projects and performances

that you support will continue to give me direction, insight and confidence that we are meeting the needs of our patrons while challenging them to grow through the performing arts we all experience. This is a fundamental way in which you as a volunteer are able to interact with the community.

It is my hope that the Center provides you with a positive return for the discretionary time that you invest with us. I encourage you to take full advantage of the volunteer experience and the Morrison Center programs available to you throughout the season.  Your support is one of the key ways that you can communicate with us and give us direction as to your wishes and desires for the future of the Center.

Enjoy your time with us!
