Morrison Center Volunteers
Thanks to the vision of Velma V. Morrison, the Center’s Volunteer Organization was formed in 1984 in preparation for the grand opening.
The Mission of the Morrison Center Volunteers is to promote and expand awareness of the facility and to provide support services to the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts. To do this, the Volunteers provide ushers, ticket takers, guides, refreshments, a gift shop, hearing assistance, floral arrangements and receptions for the patrons. These activities produce financial support for the Morrison Center, as well as many hundreds of hours of dedicated volunteer work.
The Morrison Center Volunteers produce their own Membership Directory, publish a quarterly newsletter (The Curtain Call) and host several social events.
If you would like to become a Morrison Center Volunteer, please complete a Membership Application (see side bar). You will be required to complete an orientation, including applicable dues and then you will be ready start volunteering!
President's Message
Welcome to the 2011-2012 season of volunteering at the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts!
Many thanks to all renewing members and a special welcome to those of you who are new members of the MORRISON CENTER VOLUNTEERS. We have a year of exciting and outstanding shows ahead.
The Volunteers offer several committees on which to work including Ushers, Refreshments, Gift Shop and Hearing Assistance. Staffing a full show requires 28 Volunteers to usher at the fourteen auditorium doors, take tickets, provide coat check and guide our patrons to their seats. In addition, 12 Volunteers staff five refreshment booths, 3 Volunteers sell items from our Gift Shop and 1 Volunteer provides assistive listening devices to patrons.
Our primary job is to see that the patrons have a safe and enjoyable experience and will want to return often to the Morrison Center. We are trained in safety procedures and in making the patrons feel welcome. Because it takes many people to see that a performance runs smoothly, we rely on the Volunteers to work shows as often as they are called and are able help.
We do more than just work shows. We also have three social events, which are free of charge, during the year to thank our hard-working Volunteers. In September, we will have the Fall Kick-Off at the Morrison Center. In May will be the Annual Dinner Meeting at the Doubletree Riverside. Our summer event in June will be the Ice Cream Social on the Morrison Center Plaza.
Thank you so much for being a Morrison Center Volunteer. I look forward to working with you this year.
